Neighborhood Emergency Network Card
Because in an emergency, your closest resource is the person next door.
When disaster strikes, whether it's a hurricane, a power outage, an earthquake, or a neighborhood fire, the people most likely to help you first aren't first responders. They're your neighbors. The ones who live within walking distance, who know your family, and who can be at your door in minutes.
Yet most families have no idea who their neighbors are, what skills they have, or how to reach them when cell service is down and the internet is out.
That's exactly why we created the Gear Up Neighborhood Emergency Network Card. A free printable fill-in card that helps you identify 3 to 5 neighbors to coordinate with before an emergency ever happens.
What Is the Neighborhood Emergency Network Card?
The Neighborhood Emergency Network Card is a simple, printable one-page template designed to help households build a local emergency support network. It's part of our free Emergency Preparedness Hub and takes about 10 minutes to fill out.
Each card includes fill-in fields for up to 5 neighbors, capturing:
• Name and phone number
• Address or unit number
• Best time to reach them
• Skills and resources they can offer (nurse, has generator, has a truck, first aid trained)
• Notes on special needs, pets, or mobility considerations
It also includes a My Household Info section so your neighbors can keep your information too.
Why Knowing Your Neighbors Is a Core Part of Emergency Preparedness
FEMA and the American Red Cross both emphasize community preparedness as a critical layer of emergency readiness, not just individual household kits. Knowing who lives around you and what resources they have can make a significant difference in how your household survives and recovers from a disaster.
Here's what a prepared neighborhood looks like in practice:
• A neighbor who is a nurse can provide basic medical care when roads are closed
• A neighbor with a generator can keep medications refrigerated for someone with a chronic condition
• A neighbor who speaks Spanish can communicate with family members who don't speak English
• A neighbor with a truck can help evacuate someone who doesn't have a vehicle
• A neighbor who knows CPR can respond within minutes, long before an ambulance arrives
None of these resources require money or extra supplies. They just require knowing who your neighbors are before you need them.
Who Should Use This Card?
This free printable emergency contact card is designed for every household but it's especially valuable for:
